Watch: Shoplifters stopped in their tracks at Roodepoort shopping mall
Updated | By Damon Beard
Dramatic cellphone footage has emerged showing shoplifters brazenly trying to get away with their crime by driving over security spikes.
According to Times Live, two women who allegedly stole goods from a store at the Clearwater Mall in Johannesburg thought they could make a hasty getaway, but seemed to forget that there was a boom they needed to get their car through first.
Security guards approached the shoplifters as they got to the boom checkpoint. Realising they didn't have an exit ticket, or as panic started to set in, the driver put her foot flat on the accelerator to try and ram through the exit barrier. It’s at that moment the security spikes equipped under the boom punctured the car's tyres, and the vehicle comes to a grinding halt.
The woman who shot the footage said the pair tried to cut in front of her and her mom, and when they realised that they were caught, they went over the spikes attempting to make a getaway.

Thankfully, the spikes saved the day and they were trapped with a pretty messed up car.
Adding a bizarre twist to the tale, the driver of the vehicle claimed to not even know the other woman in the vehicle.
The car was found to have fake number plates and an investigation into the matter is ongoing, it is reported.
A lot happens in this short clip, so you better watch carefully. It's an action-filled adventure.
