Watch: SA billionaire Robert Gumede gifts son with Porsche for passing matric
Updated | By Damon Beard
Celebrating in style! Robert Gumede has given his son, Robert Junior, a gift with a hefty price tag for passing matric.
Robert Gumede, a South African billionaire and founder of IT firm Gijima Technologies, decided to spoil his 18-year-old son, Robert Junior, for passing matric.
While most parents choose to take their child out for dinner or buy them a new cellphone, Gumede bought his son a Porsche 911 GT3. It is reported that the luxury car's price tag starts at a whopping R1.7-million. The 911 GT3 is a high-performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car, which is mainly intended for racing.

In the video, the family fools Robert Junior into believing that he’s getting a Porsche Boxter S (which costs around R795,000), but when he turns around and sees the yellow 911, he goes all kinds of crazy.
So as a family we decided to fool my little brother and made him believe that he got the Boxster S. Yes he was happy... But wait and see his reaction to what we ACTUALLY him.

But some people are now asking whether the gift is a bit too extreme for such a young kid. Hey, in my opinion, if dad’s got money, why not? If Robert Junior has passed his matric and this is a spoil, then I’m glad for him.

What do you make of it? Was this gift a bit too much from the dad, or each to their own?
