VIDEO: Terrifying! Toddler falls into deep manhole after cover gives way

The main purpose of a manhole is to carry out any inspections required on the sewer line, and a cover is normally placed on the top to ensure that no one falls through. 

A mother from St Petersburg in Russia got the fright of her life when her baby girl walked over a manhole cover and took a plunge as the cover flipped over.

The quick-thinking mom sprang into action and tossed the cover aside to retrieve her child from the manhole. Thankfully, using all her might, she managed to pick up the terrified child.

One Twitter user praised the mom's strength: "I used to work in manholes. Those covers are pretty heavy. That mom tossed that cover like it was nothing."
