Smoke signals: Watch police 'escort' couple to their matric dance
Updated | By Damon Beard
The matric dance entrance video that's doing the rounds has many divided, with some saying it's a waste of resources, while others believe it's a bit of harmless fun. Damon now wants to know what you think...

Matric dances are usually a time for celebration, a time for grand entrances, elaborate fashion statements, and smartly dressed guys in their best suits with beautifully dressed girls on their arm.
While trolling through the ECR website on Tuesday, I came across a very interesting article published by East Coast Breakfast which they termed the "most dramatic yet epic matric dance entrance" they've seen to date. In the video, you see a host of really flashy cars, coupled with a smoke machine. It was one for the record books, or so I thought...

Then I came across another larger-than-life matric dance entrance which was way over the top. It is alleged to have taken place up in Newcastle, and shows a matric couple arriving at their matric dance escorted by a SAPS Nyala with officers in uniform around them. Green smoke goes off, and, poof, the couple appears.
Watch the footage that's been making the rounds below:
While the bystanders were screaming for joy at this 'epic' entrance, ECR Newswatch reports that the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has condemned the footage, apparently saying that he was "disturbed by the apparent misuse of valuable resources". An investigation is being conducted into the incident.
Comments and sentiment from social media users have been mixed, with some saying that it was inappropriate, while others believe that it was just pure fun.
"Please understand that a policeman is also a human being and is entitled to a bit of fun ask me i wore that uniform for 25to years. Until a person has worn that uniform you will not know what a policeman goes through every time he books on duty," said Nick Potgieter.

While Siobhan Marais Isaacs added: "We are all entitled to say our say been TAXPAYERS in this beautiful country of ours🙄🙄 I too am not denying kids having fun but I am sorry the use of those police officers is just not right... PERIOD ✋"
I mean, we all know that it’s all about arriving at your matric dance in style, and in a way that’s as unique as possible. So I’ve got to say that I think the idea is most definitely unique, but the use of the riot vehicle is in poor taste. There are many ways to make an entrance, but this was bordering on poor taste. Just my thoughts.
What do you think? Do you think this was in poor taste and an abuse of public resources? Share your thoughts with me.
