Should you be recognised for putting in extra hours at work?

"There are not enough hours in the day" is a common phrase used by many in today's hectic work life. But are all those extra hours simply for your benefit, or does it call for some form of recognition?

How important is recognition in your workplace?

Let me ask you this - do you know when National Employee Appreciation Day is? In case you didn't know, it is usually celebrated on the first Friday of March. 

To be honest, does it even matter, because if showing appreciation is part of your company’s culture, it should happen every day of the year, right?

Let’s face it, appreciation is a fundamental human need, and we respond to appreciation because it confirms that others value our work. Am I right in saying that we all want to be respected and valued by others for our contribution? The little 'pat on the back' really goes a long way.

How many times have you put in the effort by working overtime because there’s just too much work to deal with? Does your boss or organisation even reward you for doing so?
