The reason behind those tiny pockets in our jeans!
If you've worn jeans before,
it's very likely you'll be familiar with a tiny pocket on the front of your
jeans. This is the reason for those tiny pockets.
You know that tiny little pocket in your jeans that tend to be annoying especially because most people’s fingers don’t fit in them?
Well, have you ever actually wondered what it’s for, and why it was put there?
The little pocket, known as the fifth pocket, appeared on the very first pair of Levi’s in 1873.
According to the Levi Strauss website, it was originally included as protection for pocket watches, and to prevent cowboy’s pocket watches from falling out of their pockets. Before the pocket was put on the jeans, cowboys used to wear their watches around their necks on a chain that would tangle or break easily.
Although we don’t use pocket watches anymore, Levi Strauss & Co haven’t altered the design because the little pocket served many functions.
I personally find the little pocket annoying and more often than not, I try find a pair of jeans with no pockets or I cut them off when I buy a new pair of jeans.
