Organisations will now have option to cancel your December break and make you take it now
Updated | By ECR
The 21-day lockdown begins on Thursday at 23h59, and employers are considering ways to stay afloat.
Organisations are looking for viable ways to keep their businesses afloat during these trying times.
According to Business Insider Online, the below are options for employers:
- Convince employees to take their December leave now and cancel the traditional year-end break
- Temporary layoffs, which will result in the employee earning a salary through the UIF until things improve
Most organisations have disaster management plans should anything happen, but many did not anticipate an outbreak that would put the country into lockdown.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has made the coronavirus plan announcement and is taking measures to protect the country from the further spread of the CODIV-19 virus.
In his speech, Ramaphosa encouraged small and medium businesses to continue paying their employees who may be at home and not able to work during this time. But the reality is that not all SMEs can afford this, resulting in them looking at other feasible options they see fit for their organisation.
Employees and employers must now prepare themselves for this period and ensure that both are aligned.
