Following the damaging unemployment crisis amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had severe repercussions on the women and youth in the country, Mobicel has brought their assembly plant home to South Africa.

They have even been endorsed as a Proudly South African company, with Eustace Mashimbye (CEO of Proudly South African) welcoming the company by saying that they are proud to have a company, such as Mobicel, demonstrating that South Africa can create such sophisticated and smart technology on local soil.

With the establishment of this local assembly plant, the company has been able to employ 65 black women as part of their first team.

The Johannesburg operation will house an extensive distribution network, a call centre and helpline, repair centre, and an assembly line.

Ridhwan Khan, the founder and CEO, also stated that it has been their goal to bring the company back to South African soil since the creation of their brand.

They also saw this as an opportunity to celebrate the important role women play in society by giving them the chance to be a part of this new team.

Mobicel has also made a commitment to continue its growth while providing more opportunities for women with a goal of adding 50 more women to the team over the next few months.

By employing these women, they hope to equip them with the right tools that will motivate them to continue their active participation in the economy.

We look forward to seeing Mobicel return home while also showing their support for South African women.
