Man labelled 'selfish' for proposing to girlfriend during marathon
Updated | By Damon Beard
Romantic or selfish? What initially seemed like a sweet idea has left social media users divided after a man decided to propose to his girlfriend during a marathon.
Listen to Wednesday's debate about the marathon proposal, or read the details under the podcast:
There have been so many amazing video clips on the internet of marriage proposals. However, people are reacting a little bit differently to this one…
During the recent New York City Marathon, Dennis Galvin went down on one knee to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Kaitlyn Curran. Sweet, right? Well, people are slating the man for stopping his bride-to-be midway during her race.

It had all the makings of a beautiful proposal - he got down on one knee and made her cry. Although she ended her race off on a high with a medal around her neck and a ring on her finger, many social media users are asking why the man couldn’t have just waited and proposed at the finish line instead of during the race? They've also said that he made things about him, and not about his partner.
Indian Express reports that Curran finished off the race in a time of 4 hours and 24 minutes, and people are saying she could have done it in a better time if she didn't stop to accept her future husband's proposal.

Here's what social media have been saying about the proposal:
If he's such a man, why didn't he ran with her, and then proposed?! Don't steal the thunder man... https://t.co/WFKYoSMIjw

I did a 10k last night and was 17th last. If my boyfriend had pulled this stunt I'd have kept on jogging! Although he wouldn't because he has a brain. https://t.co/U2GrLmcHvI

Like he really couldn’t wait until the finish line? I’m really over it. https://t.co/0QrTnqmLIT

If he really loved her, he would've waited until after the race, given her a massage, taken her to a nice dinner, left her alone all night so she could have a nice long rest, woke her up the next morning with homemade waffles and strawberries, then asked her to marry him. Geez.

I think the guy was being a bit selfish. I mean, his girlfriend would have most definitely put in a huge amount of training, so this marathon would have been a big deal for her.

Yes, by all means, pop the question, but he should have waited until the end so she could do what she set out to do - and that’s run the race. Imagine the pressure on her to say "yes", too!
Was this just all about making this special moment about him? Do you think this proposal is romantic or selfish?
