Lucky escape: Man inches away from being struck by lightning
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Apparently, in America, there is a 1 in 5000 chance of a person being struck by lightning. This man experienced that first hand and lived to tell the tale.
"It would never happen to me" was probably one of the phrases this South Carolina man, Romulus McNeill, would have said before this terrifying incident occurred. Thankfully, he's alive to tell the tale.
Lightning can be quite terrifying, and most of us are cautioned to stay indoors when it does happen. However, Romulus found himself on a rainy day walking along a path where he works as a guidance counsellor - umbrella in hand.

Suddenly, a flash of lightning occurs, missing him by almost inches, but close enough to scare the living daylights out of him, causing his umbrella to fall to the ground.
Speaking to On Air With Ryan Seacrest, the 49-year-old said: "There was a big boom and there was a big, bright flash and I was just trying to get out of there as fast as I can. I didn’t know what happened, all I know is that something that was quick and intense and powerful and I just wanted to get to my car."
In the original story published, a Meteorologist said that the lightning didn't directly hit him, but rather was really close to him, making him jump out of his skin.

Let's just say that he will be indoors from now on when lightning strikes.
