KZN woman's top deemed 'inappropriate' for work
A Durban woman sent a request for help to our WhatsApp line after she was called out for wearing a top which sparked a debate in her office.

On Monday, we came across a picture and a voice note from a KZN woman who pleaded with us to help her solve a debate which broke out in her office. She wore a top which many deemed to be too 'inappropriate' and steamy for the office.

I don't see what everyone is in a frenzy about? Honestly, I see nothing wrong with this girl's top. I’ve looked at it over and over and even when I try to find fault, I can’t. But then I realised that it might not be the slit in the top that’s the problem, but I think it’s the teeth with dripping blood around the slit which caused the outrage.
When it comes to dressing for the office, I guess we all have different opinions on what’s acceptable and what’s not. Darren Maule may come to work in shorts and trainers, I come in jeans and flip-flops, Zama may wear jeans and a smart shirt, and Buhle could wear ski pants and a long top. So it's hard to say what's appropriate and what’s not. I guess that it depends on the environment.
The reality though is that the impression we make on others, whether new business prospects, clients, or those responsible for decisions about raises and promotions, is shaped by our appearance. We’re also representing our company as an employee, and how we dress either reflects positively or negatively on the organisation.

When you’re dressed and ready to leave for work and glance in the mirror, do you ask yourself how you would feel about doing business with someone dressed in a similar manner? In saying that, I think we also need to be true to ourselves. I mean, if I came to work in smart pants and a long shirt with a jacket every day, well that’s not me. I'm more a jeans, t-shirt, and flops type of guy.
What is your honest opinion about this woman's top? Should she have been sent home to change?
