"I'm earning under the minimum wage and I'm scared to ask my boss for a raise"
Updated | By Damon Beard
A single parent is in desperate need to ask his boss for a raise but is not sure if it may rock the boat too much.
Talking about money can be quite a contentious issue - especially if it happens to be about the money that you earn as a salary or wage.

Most of us believe that we are worth more than what we get paid. Asking your employer for more money can be quite tricky as you don't want it to seem as though you are only after money, and are not passionate about your job.
But, if you feel you are getting underpaid, you should be able to have an open conversation with your boss, right?

Well, a single parent is not sure if he should or not. It's almost as if he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
Take a look at the message he sent us below:
Hi Damon. I have a dilemma whereby I am a single parent who is currently earning under the minimum wage. I have 3 adults including myself and 3 kids to take care of. When I started the job last year I was told in the interview, that as my boss gains clientele I will be given an increase then. I have received nothing till now. I am at my wit's end as by the next day. I don't have any cash left as I use public transport. I am currently job hunting and with the cost of living, that's so high. I'm not sure what to do. Everyone in my building is all earning way more. Which brings me to my question: Do I ask my boss for the increase, wait till he or she brings the subject up, or shut my mouth and be grateful for the job? Problem is if I leave it, will he or she think I am happy with the salary and they may or may not bring it up? HELP!- Anonymous
What do you think this man should do? What would you do if you were in his shoes?
