UPDATE 29 MARCH 2019 - Oh My Soul Café wins name war against the fast food giant. They sent a voice note to Thandolwethu to share the news.
Listen as both brands talk about the court battle over the trademark name 'soul', or read the details under the podcast.
A name may be meaningless to some, but for brands, it means a lot - especially when it has been registered as trademarked.
A Durban North vegan restaurant, Oh My Soul Café, is currently in a tussle with a fast-food chicken giant over the use of the word 'soul' in their brand name.
The fast-food giant claims that they own the rights to use the trademarked word 'soul', and is claiming that the vegan cafe is an infringement of their trademark.
Thandolwethu managed to get the owners of the cafe and the fast-food giant's trademark lawyer on-air to chat about the current disagreement, and if there is a solution to the problem.
We hope that both brands will come to a mutual agreement that will benefit both parties at hand.
