Beyoncé to play Saartjie Baartman in self written movie
Beyoncé has set her sights on an Oscar, which she hopes to win by making a film about the life of Saartjie Baartman. Do you think this is a good idea?
Beyoncé has to be one of the biggest superstars of our generation.
She has most the awards you can think of apart from an Academy Award and she has potted how she wants to win it.
It is said that Beyoncé is penning a story about Saartjie Baartman, a KhoiSan woman, who was taken from South Africa to be exploited in Europe and be part of a freak show.
It is said that Saartjie was extremely bootylicious and that is what the Europeans saw as freakish about her.
At the age of 26, Saartjie passed away and her genitals was cut up and put on display.
As much as it is a great thing that our stories are being told, it pains me that they aren’t being told by South Africans.
I also am not for Beyoncé playing the role of Saartjie. Beyoncé is a great performer but acting is not her forte (The BeyHive will have me for this).
