Exclusive: A one-on-one with the DA's John Steenhuisen
Updated | By Terence Pillay
Terence Pillay sits down with new Democratic Alliance Parliamentary Leader John Steenhuisen for a candid chat.
Listen to audio here:
John Steenhuisen has always been a very vocal member of the Democratic Alliance. So when the end of October saw a number of high profile resignations within the party, Steenhuisen, who was the former chief whip, was the obvious choice to be the next DA Parliamentary Leader. He’s also availed himself to become the party leader in the wake of Mmusi Maimane’s shocking resignation at a press conference last month.
Steenhuisen, a Durban native, started his political career at just 22 years of age. Now he faces the daunting task of actually leading the party that’s been dogged by controversy over the loss of voters and infighting within the party.
In an exclusive interview, he opens up about his new position as Parliamentary Leader, the problems within the party that need fixing, and how he plans to take the leadership to a new level.
