Last week I brought you the story of Janet, a mother of two boys aged eight and six who was forced by her children’s school to consider medicating her child for his boisterous behaviour. His teachers and principal recommended that he see a child psychologist. Janet complied with the recommendation only to be told by the psychologist that he child needs to be placed on mood stabilizers. Janet was shocked at the suggestion (a) because her child was only six years old and (b) he didn’t consult with the psychologist long enough for her to make that recommendation.

The story attracted a vociferous response from parents, all with similar stories.
This week Dr. Amith Keshave, a paediatric neurologist, gives us a medical opinion on the matter. Dr. Keshave has also agreed to consult with Janet and her children and I will bring you an update in the near future.
