You've been pronouncing Ariana Grande's surname wrong the whole time!
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
During a recent interview, the singer opened up about what her surname would be after she marries her now fiance. That's when she dropped a bomb on how her surname is really pronounced.
Over the years, I have been known to mispronounce a name or a word, and don't mind getting corrected on how to pronounce it the right way.
On the flip side, I've also had people come up to me and mispronounce my surname. I've had people calling me all sorts of things, including 'Liny Thomas', 'Lily Thomas', and 'Linely Thomas' just to rattle off a few. It happens, we're human.

However, I was very surprised (and you're going to be as well) after I discovered a video this past weekend about singer Ariana Grande. It turns out that we've been saying her name wrong for all these years.
During an interview with the team from KIIS 1065, she was asked about whether she would be taking on her fiance Pete Davidson's surname when she eventually marries him. If you thought her surname was pronounced 'Grun - Day', think again.
Watch the video below:
Yes, it's actually 'Gran - Dee' and not 'Grun - Day'. How silly do you feel at this moment? I was oh-so surprised!
It seems as if Miss Grande's mispronounced surname is not the only thing people get confused when verbalising. Because we all have different ways of saying things, it sometimes is the case where we end up butchering how a word is actually supposed to sound versus what it reads like.

I found a very interesting article from Prime Magazine which speaks about commonly mispronounced words. Prepare to have your mind blown:
- 'Often' - Incorrect pronunciation: off – ten. Correct pronunciation: off – en
- 'For all intents and purposes' - Incorrect pronunciation: “for all intensive purposes”. Correct pronunciation: “for all intents and purposes”
- 'Et Cetera' ('Etc' in its abbrievated form) - Incorrect pronunciation: ex – set – err – uh. Correct pronunciation: ett – set – err – uh
- 'Candidate' - Incorrect pronunciation: can – uh – dett. Correct pronunciation: can – da – dett
Another notable mention goes out to the word 'GIF' which many pronounce as Jiff.
