Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
Picture this - you're head over heels for someone and want to start a relationship with them. One catch is that they have kids from a previous marriage or relationship. What do you think about dating someone who has kids?
Listen as Jane's friend shares her views on why she does not want kids in the podcast, then read more below:
I have a girlfriend who has been single for over five years. She is pretty, funny, holds down a high-end corporate job, and is desperate to find Mr Right.
What's the problem here, you ask? She is dead set against having children and, being in her early 40s, the guys that she finds herself attracted to have kids. The funny thing is that she is so good with kids, my three little ones absolutely adore her and love it when she comes to our home for lunch or dinner.

One of her biggest fears is never finding anyone to settle down with and the added guilt that she feels about not wanting to mother her own kids, let alone anybody else's, is dragging her down.
It's a hard one for me as I have been maternal all my life and can't imagine my life without the joy of kids. No amount of me trying to change her mind is going to change how she feels. It seems that she has her mind made up.

There is a guy in her running club who has asked her out for drinks a few times and she keeps saying no even though there is chemistry. However, he has two sons and she isn't willing to go there.
I told her last night that it's her life and she must do what feels right for her. She added that society makes it hard for her to feel at peace with her choice because as women, some believe that we are 'meant' to fulfill the role of mother.
What are your thoughts about dating someone who has kids? Is it a deal breaker for you?
