What is the right age to allow your children to attend sleepovers?

Having sleepovers is an age-old activity, but with all the craziness happening in the world, how do you feel about your children spending the night away from you?
At some point, our children are going to ask us to attend a sleepover, and deciding to allow them to go or not is a pretty difficult situation.
My kids are still young and they are already asking about sleepovers. I'm so far away from being ready for that stage, though.

When I was younger, I used to sleep over at friends' homes all the time, and to be honest, I was a nightmare! Whenever it came to sleep time I wanted to go home, it's a miracle I survived boarding school!
There are so many opinions about kids sleeping over with friends and for now, my kids aren't putting me under any real pressure, but I do know the time will come.

A lot of people say that from around the age of 10 is appropriate, but I still feel like that is a little too young for them to be away for an entire night. No one truly knows what happens in another home.
I suppose the key is trust and knowing your children's friends and their family dynamics very well.
