SA talks about #funeralsafterlockdown
Updated | By Stacey Norman on East Coast Radio
This lockdown has really been strenuois on all of us but especially those that are not able to earn money during this crisis.
On Thursday, South African twitter had a chat about how expensive funerals are and maybe it will be better to keep the same practice used during lockdown when it comes to funerals even after lockdown is lifted.
Do you agree that funerals are too costly? To avoid costs, maybe we should make the funeral lockdown regulations common practice? Like, bury within 3 days. If you don't agree, why should we continue spending so much for funerals? #FuneralsAfterLockdown

Tweeps went on to say "Our Black Funerals are too expensive, unnecessarily costly. I have been advocating us to cut some unnecessary things like cooking, expecting the bereaved family to give you food while they are in pain. 3days max to bury. Only family and close friends. #funeralsafterlockdown"

It probably is something that needs to be looked at even though in some cultures funerals are sacred and are done a certain way to honour the dead.
Do you think we should bend some of our cultural beliefs to save ourselves from being in debt after lockdown?
Read what the rest of twitter had to say.
We mustn’t mix culture with the need to review practices that are no longer financially sustainable.

If we are going to have large funerals, let’s serve cheaper meals eg soup, sandwiches etc. The era of the cow must fall. #FuneralsAfterLockdown
The President said it, life will never be the same after Covid19! buying a cow must fall, feeding the entire community that brings nothin to the table must fall, we serve jam and peanut butter sandwiches 🥪 going forward! #funeralsafterlockdown

We cancel catering for the public, we cancel after tears. On the same note pastors will only eat after they assisted in the graveyard.#FuneralsAfterLockdown pic.twitter.com/s5aCwDFGrY
