A mom's nightmare visit to the ER
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
When this woman took her daughter to the hospital she did not expect this.
As a mom I am always jarred when I see the school landline number come up on my phone, sadly it is never a call of pleasantries but rather a rash alert, bump, high temperature or a fall of sorts.
One can only imagine how Merritt Smith must have felt when she was told her precious 4 year-old Joni had been hit in the face with a metal toy.
This knock to her small cheek looks unbelievably
painful.
As if the actions of the little boy who hit her weren't enough it was followed up by a comment that would have also thrown me.
The guy at the front desk of The Children’s Hospital blurted, ‘ I bet he likes you’ as a response to her battered cheek.
I can only assume this champ was trying to be naively upbeat and going back to the playground image of a boy pulling a girl’s ponytail as an expression of affection.
Obviously this act is far worse and required stitches.
How strange that bruises or aggressive behaviour should ever be uttered in the same sentence as affection, right?
I am sure the kid who lashed out hadn’t intended to hurt her and sometimes kids act out in the most alarming way.
However a man who is the face of a kids ER should know better.
Merrit went onto Facebook with her story and as you can imagine the response has been overwhelming.
What are your thoughts to the way he handled this?
"I bet he likes you."Dear man at the registration desk at Children's hospital, l'm positive that you didn't think that...
