Little boy stars in Moschino Barbie commercial
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
A Barbie commercial that features a boy playing with the
doll for the first time ever is getting praise on social media for challenging
gender barriers. Watch the ad here and tell us what you think.
This advert has people either cheering for acceptance, progressive home values and equality or gritted teeth of disdain asking why they are using a little boy as a gay stereotype, and to let kids be kids and not them to fit into a political agenda.
Another point someone made was how this was another example of oppressive males encroaching on women's hobbies and ruining their safe spaces.
Whaaaaat!???!
For me I think it's so Jeremy Scott, a man who loves attention, hype, fashion and talk ability, and being a part of the first boy in a Barbie campaign, talk they will.
Linked to the who's who of fashionable threads, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Jared Leto, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Rita Ora... Jeremy has never had the desire to fit in, something I totally buy into.
I get that not every parent is going to like this advert but for me I feel that if your child, in particular a boy child has a desire to own a Moschino doll then no amount of gnashing is going to change him on the inside so why not rather embrace it?!
This advert in my option is a message of tolerance and acceptance.
