Jane: Women need to take time to be kind to themselves
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
On Women's Day 2017, our very own Jane Linley-Mama has an important and real message to share with all the women of KZN.
On this day and every day, may you know how loved and cherished you are. I know we give ourselves a hard time, and if you are a mother, you know how lethal mother's guilt can be. It sneaks up and pounces with speed and agility.
From one day to the next, children or not, as long as you are trying your best, you can rest easy. Sure, there will be things that will go horribly wrong, but instead of beating yourself up, take a deep breath - everything is going to be okay. Tomorrow is another day. Be kind to yourself.
I love the saying that 'you can't pour from an empty cup' because so often we put our wants, needs, and desires on the back burner, so that others can have the best. This mindset has to change. If you need help in your life, put your hand up and ask for help. It doesn't make you weak to ask for help, there is strength in being 'weak'.
As women, we need to show our vulnerable sides more often so we can be touch points for each other. We belong to such a sacred village. We should spend more time lifting each other up and supporting as opposed to judging each other.

When you feel overwhelmed, step back, and as my mom said to me when I was pregnant with the twins 'you can only eat an elephant one mouthful at a time'. It's a long road we have to tread on but always remember one thing: you've got this!
Sending all my love and light to all the beautiful women out there. Happy Women's Day!
