Trevor Noah was asked on Carte Blanche if he missed anything about South Africa and he mentioned the friendliness of the people. How when people walk into a room they greet you. Apparently, that is not done in the US. Having only ever lived in SA, it's something I take for granted.

With Heritage Day coming up in September, I came across this hilarious article explaining some of the ways we know that we're truly South African. Here's just some of them that made me giggle:

- Swearing in one of the 11 languages (Haha - I still need to learn a few of these)

- Laughing at the Parliament channel (The drama that goes on there is too hilarious not to)

- Using words such as 'eish', 'ja' or 'ag nee man' (I catch myself using all of these at times)

Another thing I picked up that makes us uniquely South African is our ability to laugh at ourselves. Jeepers, if we didn't we would be in a sorry state. Just this weekend, we went to see Peter Dirk Uys in his one-man show, 'Echo of a Noise'. He truly makes me so proud to be South African.

I love how diverse and vibrant our country is. One thing I could live without, though, is being called Aunty Jane. I'm not an 'aunty'. I mean, yes, I have a niece and nephew in Cape Town and I am their aunt, but the term 'aunty' makes me feel frumpy.
