Fearless firefighter puts own life at risk to save suicidal woman
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
This firefighter is going viral for all the right reasons. Unsung heroes like this man should be showcased more often in the media.
Suicide is a very real and disturbing issue that is rife in all parts of the world. According to an article published by South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), 10% of all unnatural adult deaths in South Africa are due to suicide. When I saw this statistic, I literally went cold.
I can't imagine being so low that the only way out would be to end my precious life? I have heard people say that suicide is a cop-out and shows weakness. I think it takes such bravery that personally I couldn't even fathom the thought. Depression is a hard beast to tame and blurs all lines.

On the flip side of that, I would like to highlight the bravery and the heroic effort of this firefighter that I came across. According to Indian Express, in the video that has been doing the rounds on social media, a woman is seen sitting on the ledge of her 15-storey building ready to jump and end her life. She is sobbing uncontrollably. The look of anguish and desperation on her face is just so heartbreaking.
However, one brave and heroic firefighter risked his life to save this woman. He tip-toes towards her in an effort to grab her. At first, she resists him, then eventually just gives into his safe arms. This superhero saved and carried her to a place of safety.
