DJ Dimplez' latest cover art causes social media storm
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
With the ever-increasing rape statistics in
South Africa, DJ Dimplez' latest cover art for his new single is causing quite
a stir.
Just last week, popular music artist DJ Dimplez released the cover art for his latest single, called What A Night, which seems to be causing a great stir about what he was trying to depict.
Firstly, calling this cover 'art' is simply ridiculous. According to Oxford Dictionaries, art is defined as 'The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.' This is an image that's been used on a cover. There is a difference between this and art.

When I saw the image for the first time, I thought to myself, 'why and when was he given this type of platform to inspire people'? Why would he choose to go down this road, especially given the rape statistics in our country? Is this just ludicrous or do you see it as a sober man helping this drunken woman to a place of safety?

The DJ went on to apologise, but as far as I'm concerned, the horse has bolted. Check out the cover 'art' below and you decide.

@DjDimplez @KwestaDaKAR this song a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about rape culture or what's this cover art supposed to mean?

What do you think - was there anything wrong with the cover or are people on social media just over-reacting?
