Could this be South Africa's most beautiful matric farewell dress ever?
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
This dress should definitely make an appearance on the red carpet. What do you think?
Oh wow! This dress is absolutely magnificent! How dramatic is the black and white? So simple yet so elegant. I love it!
Sarie recently announced their winner of their 'Matric Farewell Dress Of The Year' and Stephanie van der Wit from Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria was chosen as the winner - and when you see the picture, you will understand why.
Stephanie's black and white frock was created by designer Anel Botha. Stephanie initially took inspiration for the design by looking at a photo of a dress designed by Valentino. She always wanted a velvet black and white dress and Anel brought her dream dress to life.

Simplicity and elegance sum up Stephanie's look. Anel told Sarie that many girls try to put too many of their ideas into one dress. Less is more in terms of design.
I often look back and wish I had been more authentically me in both my matric dance dress and to some degree my wedding dress. My matric ball dress was nothing to write home about, and my wedding dress was gorgeous. I just wish I'd followed my heart 100% and gone full black, not a black and white mix.
In saying that, it was a sight to behold with the long black lace gloves, black roses around the neckline, and big black lace bow on the back that went to the floor and trailed behind.
Next year, Mr. T and I are going to renew our wedding vows for our 10-year wedding anniversary. Yay for another opportunity to get dressed up!

As for Stephanie's dress, it is definitely fit to be on the red carpet or even on the runway. Elegance and class all in one!
