Could coconut oil do more harm than good?
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
Many have sworn by coconut oil for its health benefits, but a recent study has been released that proves otherwise.
Coconut oil - my absolute favourite! In addition to using it for my hair, I sometimes use it to cook with after hearing about the amazing health benefits connected with it. However, after reading this article, I'm not quite convinced anymore.

According to W24, a study has been published showing a direct correlation between fats that we use (in this case coconut oil) and cardiovascular diseases. So without actually saying it, in essence, coconut oil doesn't have the health benefits that many have sworn by in the past, and it could actually do more harm than good.
Coconut oil is made up of 82% saturated acids and research has been conducted using coconut oil while cooking. Results have shown that using it has the ability to increase cholesterol levels which aren't good for your heart and, more importantly, your health.
However, one should not always be scared off by research such as this. Moderation is key here.
Amongst all the health news and trends out there, I just can’t keep up with it all. There seems to be a new fad coming out each week. One week, bacon can cause cancer, next week avocados are bad for you, next we’re being told that we should never under any circumstances eat bread.

I guess each to their own. I do think that we need to be cognizant of the research there is out there and make a decision that will benefit us in the long run.
On a lighter note, this parody of these two women chatting about coconut oil had me in stitches after watching it. Their facial expressions are everything!
As a woman in this new society we live in, I find it overwhelming and extremely confusing with the information and research overload.
Do you, like me, feel bombarded by the constant commentary about what is good and bad for us?
