Shelby explains how her parents were having trouble with conceiving for a long period of time, therefore resorting to IVF.
IVF (In vitro fertilisation) is a medical procedure whereby the sperm is combined with the egg outside of the body. In 1990, Shelby's parents were among the first to try this alternative to falling pregnant.
Shelby, calling herself a petri-dish baby, was not part of the first batch that was used to induce a pregnancy in her mother. After her mother fell pregnant with her twin sisters, she waited four years before wanting to have another baby.

Four years later they decided to unfreeze the other half but my doctor told my mom that they would never work cause they were frozen for way too long but that ended up being me (a miracle). So basically my sisters and I are fraternal triplets that are separated by four years because we were all conceived at the same time in 1990. I was just frozen on the planet for four years.
