WATCH: Turtle scares away thirsty lions
Updated | By East Coast Radio
This little turtle is the motivational icon we didn't know we needed!
Everyone loves an underdog success story.
There are many classic stories, fables, and fairytales where there is a smaller, tinier, or less threatening character that needs to overcome an obstacle that tends to be more menacing and bigger than them.

Just think 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. (He literally had to avoid a giant.)
But how often do you see a story like this play out in nature? Not really that often, if you have a look at the food chain.
That was until we saw this video of a small little turtle taking on not one but two lions!

The video was posted on the wildlife website Latest Sightings where Kruger Park visitors can upload any footage they capture during their trip to the park.
The site is home to some of the craziest, weirdest and whackiest nature videos you will ever see and their latest viral sensation is no exception.

Reggi Barreto, a 30-year-old safari guide, recorded the video near the Sand River in the MalaMala Private Game Reserve, in the Greater Kruger Park, while he was on safari with a private guest.
Barreto told Latest Sightings that they had hears that a few lions had caught a zebra and along with his guests, they all decided to follow up and see if they could still spot the animals.
I knew the lions would look for water to drink and we positioned ourselves in the perfect spot with the sunlight in our favour, ready for the sighting. What came next we did not expect – I was pleasantly surprised when the terrapin came out of the wallow towards the male and then the lioness.- Reggi Barreto

While everyone would love to believe that the little guy was really planning on taking on two lions and showing them whose boss, it turns out that he might not have been too keen on fighting and was more interested in something else.
It was an incredibly rare sighting for me to film – watching the terrapin approach the lions that had blood on their chins from the zebra. It seems as though the terrapin was actually more interested in getting some of that blood off the lions' chins, as opposed to ‘chasing the lions away’.- Reggi Barreto

Whatever the reason, it is still pretty impressive seeing this tiny reptile not showing a sign of fear and ready to confront a much bigger predator.
And the lions did get a good scare.
This little turtle energy is what we all need to embody and harness for the rest of 2021!
