A rare exchange between a scuba diver and octopus has us in awe.

It's not everyday that we see a spectacular octopus in Mzansi, but when we do, we're in for a surprise.

Just off the coast of South Africa, a scuba diver was in a tango with an octopus.

However, this time the unexpected occurred.

As captured in the video above, a scuba diver caught an up-close look at a fully-grown octopus.

Instead of being cold or cruel as most octopi tend to be, this particular creature reached out its tentacle to him multiple times, as if offering to shake hands - how bizarre!

Professional aquarists state that octopi have a reputation as highly individualistic animals that require frequent mental stimulation, often enjoy physical contact, and often strongly prefer human interaction to others

So yes, you can be tjoms with an octopus.

These fascinating creatures seize to amaze us with new information surfacing that octopi were actually around before dinosaurs.

These water beings hold so much generational significance. If you ever come into contact with one, it's not something you should take for granted.

Here's what to do if you ever come into contact with an octopus

  1. Pull away quickly
  2. Do not go limp
  3. Prevent the octopus’s arms from wrapping around your arms. 
  4. Peel the suckers off your body
  5. Turn somersaults in the water to irritate it
  6. Swim towards the surface as quickly as possible
  7. Call for emergency assistance
