WATCH: Shower hour in Umhlanga as Chartwell Drive floods due to burst water valve
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
A water fountain in the middle of Umhlanga village? This is really the last thing we need with the current water crisis!
On Wednesday morning during a #ECRRunWithStacey activation at Tiki Tonga, onlookers were shocked when what seems like the valve of a hydrant failed, expelling water out and onto the street in huge volumes.
Many members of the public had mixed emotions, especially with the current water restrictions.
Business owners advised that this also happened on Tuesday when the municipality was attempting to repair some pipes and the road.
Watch this heart-breaking moment captured by one of the runners on the scene:

UIP (uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct) was quick to make it onto the scene.
We chatted to one of the security personnel named Musa.
Musa says: "I was told by my colleagues that there was water gushing out of the valve and I came to investigate the scene. We just called the Municipality to come and address this situation."

Concerned residents have shared their sentiments about the lack of urgency to address this issue by the municipality.
One local mentions: "The effect on business owners who have been privy to this issue for the past two days is highly unfortunate."
Other locals have joked on how there is "finally a water fountain in the middle of Umhlanga Village."
If we don't laugh right now, we will cry...
We hope that no more water is wasted in the municipality's endeavour to fix the issues in the area.
Eye witness reports say that "at around 7:45am when we returned to the strip after our run, the water was finally switched off."
More updates will be shared when available.
