When we think back to what we were doing at the age of nine it seems like a too young age to really be doing anything except enjoying life, so excuse us if we tell you that when we first came across the story of Journey Nelson we were in disbelief.
According to 7 News Miami, Journey and her mom Danielle Mobley had been grocery shopping in Florida, minding their own business.

The two of them had just reached their vehicle in the parking lot outside of the market when a man, who police have identified as 29-year-old Demetrius Jackson, starts running towards Danielle before lunging at her.
He tries to steal her purse as he tackles her to the ground but as all of this is happening, Journey notices that her mother has been tackled and she runs from the passenger side to her mother and the thief.

While Danielle is extremely proud of her daughter she has mentioned that the incident has affected Journey mentally.
Thanks to Journey's quick thinking though her mom is okay and the police captured Jackson two days after the attack and he's been charged with robbery and battery.

The Florida police have also chosen to honour Journey for her heroic actions with a "certificate of bravery".
I fought back. I had to save my mom- Journey Nelson
I wouldn't recommend that you confront an individual like that, but in the heat of the moment, things happen. I bet he was shocked when she kicked him right in the face because he definitely could tell on the video that he was not expecting that. And her actions were perfect timing in this particular situation, and I think she hit him pretty hard.- Chief Frank Adderley
We couldn't think of a braver and more deserving candidate!
