Updated | By Stacey and JSbu
Her story is uniquely South African, a road of defeating the odds stacked against her to success. This is Thembi Kgatlana.
When someone mentions women's football in South Africa, without hesitation one name is normally top of mind- Portia Modise.
The most decorated female football player in history, but outside of that little if any regard has been given to the women's game of football. Whether it be by South African fans in general, but also very notably by big sponsors.

There has been of late an injection of financial and fan support for the game and this can partly if not mainly be put down to the rise of one player: Thembi Kgatlana.
At just the age of 25, Thembi has already cemented her name in the history books of South African sports. The well travelled Banyana Banyana superstar is flying the South African flag high at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. She has also released an autobiography titled: Strike a Rock: The Story Of Thembi Kgatlana.

The autobiography is written by Nikolaos Kirkinis and it focuses not only on Kgatlana’s football journey that has taken her from the US to China, Portugal, and now Spain, but provides an inspirational story of hope and resilience.
For the month of August, East Coast Radio is celebrating the #Unshaken women of South Africa. Women who have remained unmoved and unshaken in a world that very often neglects them.
