Sun's out, buns out: Durban's infamous nude beaches
Today we take an inside look at Durban's nude beaches on National Nude Day.
Our golden mile has been through the most this year: floods, contamination, closure, and more.
We were so excited when the municipality opened some of our favourite beaches up.
However, a particular group of people weren't happy about that their beach wasn't opened...

In celebration of National Nude Day, we decided to look into three of Durban's secret beaches.
The interesting thing is that allegedly people attend these beaches in their birthday suits.
Here's a list of Durban's famous nude beaches:
- Peace Cottage
Rumour has it that the beach just past breakers towards uMdloti is a beach where many nudists like to bathe at and bask in the open seas.
This particular location has limited entry points and has tons of greenery to disguise themselves, should any local authorities or unexpected guests arrive.
It is said that holiday-makers as well as locals enjoy a day in their birthday suit at this hidden location.
However, this beach has been closed since the chemical spill.

- Rocket But Beach (near Beachwood)
Back in the day there used to be a little beach where some nudies would hang out in the leafy suburbs of Durban North.
First hand accounts indicate that this beach has not been in use for a long period of time.
There is no lifeguard presence in the area and along with its rough seas, this beach was the perfect spot for the uncovered to mingle.
Since then the greenery has decreased and the area has become too exposed, thus it is no longer in use.
Last but not least,
- Mpenjati (South Coast)
A nature reserve in a secluded area on the South Coast. This is the perfect spot to be bare all by the beach.
Not much information has been shared on the exact location of where this could be, but one thing is certain, in order to keep a nude beach alive it has to stay private.
