There has been a concerning amount of criminal activity of late, which has resulted in a need for heightened safety measures.
We may not be able to control the current state of affairs, but we can control how equipped we are when faced with danger.
If we can take anything from the heartbreaking incidents that are occurring around us, it's that we should stay alert and expect the unexpected.

Crime in KZN is at a high. In 2022, the staggering figures show a 54.7% increase in attacks on women, and 58.4% on children.
We decided to speak to the East Coast family on what measures they take to not jeopardise their safety. Listen below:
So, as the country goes about ‘business as usual’, here are a few safety tips for families:
- Have an emergency meeting spot when you arrive
- Safety in numbers
- Pre-arrange lifts
- Keep some cash in your socks or shoes in case you get robbed
- Never stop on the side of the road unnecessarily
- Keep your valuables hidden
- Stay in well-lit areas
- Always lock the house at night
- Check in with family members
- Always be aware of your surroundings
- Have a buddy-system
- Tell someone where you are
- Use apps like life360 so loved ones are aware of your whereabouts should something happen
- Stay away from hostile situations
- Recognise the signs of being drugged
- Call for help
