Stacey reveals a super awkward moment with the team
Don't you hate it when you get a message from a number you do not know, particularly if the message also happens to be a voice note? That is my worst!
As a woman, not to puff myself up, but I am used to getting the attention and being courted by men, even from men who know that I have been in a very loving and committed relationship. I am a woman who is never left speechless but last week, I was left exactly like that...
This was after I received a voice note from a number that I didn't know. I was in bed with my boyfriend working on his laptop next to me. When I received the voice note from this unknown number, I did not think much of it... until 15 seconds in.
I immediately recognised the voice, even though the gentleman in question re-introduced himself. It is someone whom I have met in person once and have on-and-off professional dealings with. Now, I want to make sure that I do not come across as shaming this individual, but he nervously asked me out for a cup of coffee.
Now, I know what you are thinking, "Big deal, Stacey, a man innocently asked you out on a coffee date." However, it's not just that... it is a few things for me.
1) I thought it was super weird that he did not ease me into the conversation, but I guess I have to have an appreciation for getting straight to the point.
2) My boyfriend's lackluster reaction to hearing the voice note in real time with me. I mean, he did not even flinch. I expected more of a reaction from him. Ladies, do you understand my frustration?!
3) What must happen now?! I just felt super awkward after. Do I respond? Must I respond? Why do I feel this intense need to do something?
So, I think that is what makes this incident more awkward for me. It left me feeling obligated to do something. I have now listened to this voice note and it is expected that I should respond, irrespective of what I say. I shared the story with JSbu and Zama, the producer of the show, and the digital producer, Nobuntu. Firstly, because the team knows the individual, there were gasps, because he is such an unassuming guy. From the ladies, it was more of a, "this is really improper".
It has been more than five days and I have not responded to said individual. I have a work commitment coming up next month where we will be in communication and I am dreading the awkward moments that may become of this. So, what shall I do? Do you have any advice for me?
