The spirit of giving… when social media tries to shame you but it backfires
Updated | By Stacey and JSbu
Dimpho surely has a guardian angel because after all the social media backlash she received, things seem to have worked out for her and her dad way better than expected.
Last week, Twitter user, Dimpho, shared a picture of her dad with the biggest smile next to his birthday gift from his loving daughter.
Read: 'Happy Birthday, dad. Here is a set of tyres to celebrate the day'
Dimpho had purchased her dad a very thoughtful gift and she proudly posted a picture of her dad alongside his gift - four tyres. This is surely something to be happy about? Well, so she thought - until social media came for her.

Instead of people just liking and congratulating Dimpho for what she did for her dad, the whole gift became a social media debate.
The beautiful moment that Dimpho had shared with her dad had turned into something else completely. Comments flooded in questioning her choice of gift.
If he is the only one that drives the car it's acceptable otherwise you should have bought a washing machine- @Gaddafi_ZA

But while other people didn't see the meaningfulness and thought behind this gift, many people did and were very proud of Dimpho.
Some gents are lucky mahn Nice one..- @IsaacRustof
That's +/- 20k down there.. such a meaningful gift.. how thoughtful .. bless you.- @sthabiledee ·
Stacey and J Sbu then spoke about it on radio and went as far as to ask KZN whether they prefer getting a practical gift versus something of more material value?
KZN came out in their numbers and were adamant what Dimpho did was the most beautiful gesture ever.
Considering the price of tyres , i think this is an exceptional gift , shows she worries about his safety and security in terms of his vehicle requirements , amazing.- Shanil Thulasaie
We were gifted a set of tyres by my father in law last christmas, I was in tears.. It was just what we needed after driving back and forth to Durban to visit my husband who spent 3 weeks in icu and underwent emergency life saving surgery our tyres were shot and there was no way we could afford new ones. So practical gifts like this can be life changing- Sarah-Lyn Castleman
