Siya Kolisi honoured with university residence in his name
Updated | By Stacey and J Sbu
Introducing the Siya Kolisi Residence! North-West University has named a residence after the Springbok captain, celebrating his legacy and inspiring students to follow in his footsteps.

Siya Kolisi's name will forever be etched in the history of the North-West University (NWU) with one of its residences being renamed in his honour.
The Dennedorp residence at the NWU's Potchefstroom Campus will be renamed the Siya Kolisi Residence, a fitting tribute to the double Rugby World Cup winner, reports IOL.
The residence, which predominantly houses rugby players affiliated with the NWU Rugby Institute, will embody the spirit of leadership, resilience, and Springbok magic that Kolisi represents.
Bert Sorgdrager, the NWU Council chairperson, believes that naming the residence after Kolisi will inspire students to strive for excellence.
Kolisi's journey from the township of Zwide in Port Elizabeth to captaining the South African national rugby team is a testament to his perseverance and leadership.
Prof Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor of the NWU, says the national rugby captain has a legacy worthy of others to aspire to.
“We know Siya for his uncompromising tackles, his head-first charges with ball in hand and his no 6 jersey that is always a reassuring sight at the side of the scrum. But, we love him for his leadership and we have endless respect for the exemplary way he has served South Africa as a global ambassador.
"With the naming of the Siya Kolisi Residence, we not only honour the player, the man and the leader for his achievements, but we ask all those that will call the residence home to follow in his footsteps, to have a positive impact and to set an example for others to follow with pride. We are looking forward welcoming future champions to these residences.”
The Siya Kolisi Residence will accommodate 104 residents, along with the newly established Invictus Residence, which will be officially opened by Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus.
