The Guardian newspaper in the UK reported that the male was part of the group of monkeys which have left more than 49 people injured in Yamaguchi, western Japan.
“Eyewitnesses describe monkeys of different sizes, and even after the capture we’ve been getting reports of new attacks,” said a city official who declined to be named.
Some residents have told local media they now carry umbrellas and tree-cutting scissors to defend themselves against the "pests".
The majority of the victims have been women and children, while some of the elderly have also been targeted.
The monkey which led the crusade was stopped in his tracks when he was captured and killed.
