The Guardian newspaper in the UK reported that the male was part of the group of monkeys which have left more than 49 people injured in Yamaguchi, western Japan.

“Eyewitnesses describe monkeys of different sizes, and even after the capture we’ve been getting reports of new attacks,” said a city official who declined to be named.

Some residents have told local media they now carry umbrellas and tree-cutting scissors to defend themselves against the "pests".
