SEE: Shallcross residents left stranded after bridge collapse

These locals are outraged with how they are unable to cross over the bridge due to #KZNFloods.
Since the #KZNFloods struck, we have been facing major effects to land and infrastructure all around KwaZulu-Natal.
Our fellow KZNers and residents of Shallcross have been under duress due to the collapse of a major bridge that connects them and Northdene.

This community is left without an access route after a bridge was washed away while the municipality monitors the progress of the current situation.

Many residents have been looking at the upside of things, saying we "Shallcross" the bridge despite all odds.
Other residents have limited access to their basic needs and are using social platforms to ask for assistance and intervention.

The concerned residents of Shallcross and Chatsworth have allegedly formed the "Pompeni River Bridge Project Team" to initiate change of their current situation.
A spokesperson for the team, Marcus Richards, said they have a short-term solution, and that would be to clean up, backfill, roll, and compact the road, which they estimate would take three weeks to a month. A long-term solution, he said, was for a newly designed bridge.
