So what is Google Street View?
Street View takes Google Maps to a new level, allowing you to visually explore and navigate a neighbourhood through panoramic street-level photographs. It enables you to view and navigate 360 degree street level imagery of various cities around the world, providing greater understanding of a specific location or area.
Generally, Google tries to take new Street View photos in major cities once every year. Less populated areas can probably expect new photos every three years or so. But when it comes, OH BOY is it a treat!

Check out Google Street View as follows:
Go to http://maps.google.com. In areas where Street View is available, you can access it by zooming into the lowest level on Google Maps, or by dragging the orange "Pegman" icon on the left-hand side of the map onto a street. For more info, you can also visit our site, www.google.co.za/streetview.

How to turn on the Street View car in Google Maps as shared by 9 to 5 Google
Since this feature is brand new, there’s a chance you might see Google Maps prompting you to turn on the Street View car once you start a route. In that case, you can follow those prompts and get access to the custom vehicle. If you don’t see the prompt, you can still switch your map icon to the Street View car. Here’s how:
- On your device, open up Google Maps.
- Find a place you want to start a fake route to and hit Start.
- You should see your current map icon – a blue arrow or dot. Tap it.
- A new window with different vehicle options will appear. Scroll to the right.
- Tap the Google Street View car.
