Sad news as two more of Durban's most beloved restaurants close their doors
Updated | By Stacey and J Sbu
This is a very serious reminder that the pandemic is not over yet...
There is no denying that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on many industries within South Africa over the last two years.
Many businesses have had to permanently pack up and close their doors, even when lockdown restrictions began to ease. Just because we weren't in lockdown level 5 anymore doesn't mean it became any easier for these businesses.
Some restaurants are heavily dependent on alcohol sales, outdoor dining, and a larger capacity of people.
Many tried their best but, unfortunately, this pandemic has claimed two more Durban foodie favourite spots.
Falafel Fundi, who have been a much-loved spot on Florida Road for three years, are closing their doors. Although it seems to hopefully only be temporary.
They took to Facebook to share the news:
But they aren't the only ones.
One of Durban's best burger joints, The Burger Bar, which is known for their American-inspired smash burgers, have also announced their closure.
They also took to social media to share the news and to thank everyone who supported them:
While the news is obviously devastating for the Durban community, it does make you once again realise that you should try and support local and small businesses as much as possible.
Even if it seems like the pandemic is "over", there are still many struggling to get back on their feet and even the smallest gesture can make a difference.
