Rihanna called out for "appropriating Islam"

Last Friday Rihanna staged the latest Savage X Fenty show in New York, and while she was praised for the show's inclusivity, she has come under fire by the Islamic community for one part of the show. 

The singer has been accused of appropriating the Islamic culture by playing Hadith during her Savage X Fenty, while models donned the lingerie line in New York. 

Hadiths are highly revered records of the traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad and are sacred to Muslims. Within Islam, a Hadith is regarded as sacred and second only to the Quran.

During the Fenty show, the scared recording was sped up and mixed with dance music which models also performed to while on stage - the song titled ''Doom'' by London producer Coucou Chloe was used. The remix uses a narration of a Hadith about the signs of the day of judgement.

Social media users were quick to call out the popstar and fashion mogul for being insensitive and disrespectful to the Islamlic community: 

It seems that it is not the first time the singer played offensive music at an event,  in 2017 it was used as the soundtrack to the Fenty X Puma show.

In 2013, it has also emerged that Rihanna posted a picture in which she wore a headscarf outside a Mosque. Rihanna was asked to leave the Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque in Abu Dhabi after taking "inappropriate" photos outside it. She was as also heavily criticized for this. 

Rihanna has not yet publicly commented on either controversy, despite calls for her to apologise.
