From R500 to R10: The dramatic fall of PRIME drinks in SA
Updated | By Stace
Maybe we should have waited to try it out…
An image of a sale on PRIME hydration drinks has got South Africa talking.
From paying a crazy R500 for a 500ml drink to it now being five for R50, the downfall in the price of the widely hyped drink has locals cracking jokes in all directions!
The drink went viral after its release in May 2023 last year, with kids lining up at local stores begging their parents for a sip of the pricey drink.

Thanks to YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, the younger generation could not wait to get their hands on their own bottle.
The drink was once a whopping R500, it went down to R40, and with the new sale price, it is now R10 per drink.
Last year, Stacey and J Sbu were determined to discover whether the famed drink was worth all the hype. The duo managed to find some in uMhlanga and tried it out. Listen to the podcast here:
On 1 May 2023, Checkers started selling the hydration drink for R39,99 per 500ml bottle.
Locals queued outside their local Checkers from sunrise, waiting for a chance to get their hands on a bottle of PRIME.
Take a look at a TikTok clip of the environment a year ago:
