The future British king shares his first statement after
his brother’s scandalous interview with Oprah earlier this week.
The whole world is still talking about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s shocking interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey this week – and the effects of it all. Prince Charles, Harry’s father, was the first to be seen in public since the interview aired and had no comment for journalists. Now, Prince William has shared his first statement with the press saying that the British royal family “are very much not a racist family.”
The prince made the statement while on a visit to a
school in east London. He added that he had not spoken to his brother Harry
since the interview, but said he would.

In the interview, Harry and Meghan confirmed to Oprah that they made the decision to step back as senior members of the British royal family because Meghan suffered greatly with serious mental health difficulties and received no help from the monarchy. The two explained that the media had been incredibly harsh on her and that their son would not be offered the same security as he wouldn’t be a working member of the royal family.
The most shocking moment, however, came when Meghan revealed that an unnamed member of the family had expressed concerns about how dark her unborn son’s skin would be.

Moments after the interview aired, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extend of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.” They added "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
