The biggest mark-up in potato history explained...
In case you didn't hear the news, potatoes are back to chipping at our wallets.
The South African Association for Potatoes is warning consumers of how the price is on the up.
This isn't a first for #PotatoIssues in Mzansi, however, once consumers were made aware of how high the retail mark-up is, there was outrage.

Potatoes SA reports that: "Currently South Africa’s farm-gate price for potatoes averages R34 for a 10kg bag."
Although retailers mark up the price up to three times the cost. How wild.

“While our consumers are currently struggling to make ends meet, we unfortunately still find product priced at certain outlets as per the picture attached. We encourage our consumers to shop around for appropriately priced potatoes,”- Potatoes SA
As you can see, we are undoubtedly in a pickle when it comes to this potato price hike.
We hope that retailers will have some sympathy for consumers and consider decreasing the mark up, especially when potatoes are a staple in South African homes.

This takes us back to the great debate with the chicken fiasco last month.
Clearly, if you want a chicken and potato roast, you are going to have to sell your soul to pay for it.
