Have you ever sat down and thought about what really needs to be in your room?

From disruptive electronics to unnecessary clutter, there are a number of items that can impact your overall well-being.

Today, we’ve decided to explore what items shouldn’t make it past your bedroom door and we’ve got a poll for you too!

We’ve listed a few common items that many believe should not be present in a bedroom, let us know what you think before we get into the details of it all!

We did some research and put together a list of things you should avoid having in your bedroom and the reasons behind it:

1. Home office or workspace
Sharing your sleeping space with your workspace has the potential to blur the line between working and resting. According to Bed Threads, it disrupts the mental association one makes with their bedroom and slumber.

2. Pets

This is a bit of a controversial one considering many people across the globe (and definitely in KZN) love those nighttime cuddles with their fur babies. However,  reports state that pets can disrupt restful and quality sleep as they tend to move around a lot and may even need to be taken outside at night for ‘potty’ trips.

3. Unnecessary clutter
According to a study by the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, the more clutter that can be seen, the higher the chance you become distracted. This ultimately leads to the detriment of a healthy sleep pattern.

4. TV
Health.com reported that having a TV on in your room at night not only disrupts your sleep but also raises the risk of weight gain. This is separate from the impact it supposedly has on communicating with loved ones.
