What would have been a compliment to any man alive has cost one Olympic athlete a possible medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Anthony Ammirati, a French pole vaulter, was attempting to make his mark at the men's qualifying event at the Paris Olympics on Saturday when his 'big' penis stood in his way.

The 21-year-old managed to jump over the crossbar successfully, but at the last moment, as he was coming down from the air, his penis touched the bar, knocking it down.

Although the incident did not automatically disqualify the first-time Olympian, his score of 5.60 meters was ultimately too low, and he placed 15th in the contest.

Ammirati said in a statement posted by the French Athletics Federation that this peculiar incident was a "big disappointment".

"The conditions were good. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to play with the audience. I was almost there," he said.

According to E! Online, competitors had to make it to the top 12 or vault over a bar of at least 5.8 meters high to advance to the men's pole vault final.

Ammirati scored 5.60, while the top athlete was Sweden's Armand Duplantis, who earned a score of 5.75.
