We asked KZN how old they were when they received their first declaration of love and how they reacted to it.
Saying I love you to someone for the first time can be an emotional minefield. Whether it's an unwanted declaration or if you're the first to say it, expect a tornado of emotions to overtake you. Imagine being a teen and giving your first crush your undying devotion and eternal love, for them only to turn around and reject it. Cue first heartbreak and devastation. It's a weird thought to think you might have had a hand in breaking someone's heart by rejecting their "I love you" without even realising it.
It doesn't get any easier as we get older either. The anxiety and excitement of a new relationship, and the fear of rejection will always make sharing the first "I love you" one of the hardest things to do.
Listener, Sashveer Dheepnarain, says he was 9-years-old when he heard it for the first time from his primary school crush. We think that's totally adorable.
When did you receive your first "I love you" and what was your reaction?
